Starting in Auriol, this hike takes you to explore Pic de Bertagne, the highest point in the Sainte-Baume massif and the Bouches-du-Rhône department, at an elevation of 1,042 meters. The route winds through a mix of woodlands, forest trails, and rockier paths before reaching the ridges.
At the summit, your efforts are richly rewarded with an exceptional 360° panoramic view of the Sainte-Baume, the Garlaban Massif, Sainte-Victoire, the Calanques, the Mediterranean, and—on a clear day—as far as the Alps. Dominated by the radio relay tower, the Pic de Bertagne is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Provence.
This hike is intended for hikers accustomed to walking on trails with significant elevation gain. Be sure to bring enough water, wear appropriate footwear, and check the access conditions for the mountain ranges before setting out, especially during the summer months.
