Access to forest areas

Conditions and restrictions

Before any walk, check that access to the forest in question is authorised for the day using the fire prevention system in the Bouches-du-Rhône and Var departments, which can be accessed by telephone, on an app or on a website.

Access conditions

The forests of our region are exposed to the risk of fire, particularly during the summer months. In our area, the Étoile, Garlaban, Sainte Baume, Calanques and Régagnas massifs are part of the fire prevention system.

Prevention measures are in place throughout the year, particularly between 1 June and 30 September.

Since 2018, the prefectures of Bouches-du-Rhône, Var and Alpes-Maritimes have decided to harmonise fire prevention measures during the summer period and inform you of the conditions for access to forest areas.

For each forest area, two colours (green or red) indicate whether you are allowed to walk (authorised or prohibited) and inform you of the level of forest fire danger. This level of danger regulates access, traffic and work in the region’s natural areas.

These conditions of access to the massifs are updated every day and established according to the weather (rainfall, wind strength, humidity level, etc…) and the drought level.

Understanding restrictions

GREEN LEVEL

You can walk around all day / Restricted work

RED LEVEL

Access and presence prohibited all day / Work prohibited

Good to know

The information for each Bouches-du-Rhône massif and for the 90 communes concerned is updated every day after 5pm for the following day.

You can consult the Préfecture des Bouches-du-Rhône website or myprovence.fr, or call 0811 20 13 13*.
After dialling the number, you can specify which massif you want to visit using the numbering system, where you enter the postcode of the commune.
Calanques 1 / Sainte-Victoire 2 / Garlaban 3 / Sainte-Baume 4 / Côte Bleu 5 / Alpilles 6 / Montagnette 7 / Autres Massifs 8
*(€0.06/minute)

Please note: from 1 June to 30 September, a prefectoral decree regulates access to footpaths in the Bouches-du-Rhône. However, some communes may also regulate the massifs in their area by municipal decree. The mayor, under his police powers, can go beyond the requirements of the prefectoral decree.

From 1 October to 31 May, access to footpaths in the Bouches-du-Rhône may be restricted in exceptional circumstances.
